AMROD

Constructed for Atterbury and the Attacq Waterfall Investment Company, the new warehouse and office facility for Amrod is an SAPOA award winning building. Introducing twelve thousand square meters of office space and over twenty seven thousand square meters of warehouse space, this facility located just off Old Pretoria Road inside Waterfall Access Park; Johannesburg, is an outstanding example of modern warehousing and production facility design and construction. The new facility with its sweeping roofs and angled pop out box structures on its Northern and Southern facades stands out amongst the many other industrial building populating the surrounding areas. Internally, the DM1 surface bed located inside the main warehouse component is of particular interest as it allows the owner to rack to heights in excess of 13m.

HOBART RETAIL CENTRE

HOBART RETAIL CENTRE

The expansion and construction of Hobart Shopping Centre was done in phases, over a seven-year period by the team at Abbeydale.Phase 1 started in 2010 and took 15 months to complete. During this time, dedicated Abbeydale team members ensured that the shopping centre was future proofed for further expansion over the years to come.

Five years later, Phase 2 started and the expansion included an additional 4000m2 for both parking and retail space. To avoid any inconvenience to retailers and shoppers, work was completed in various stages and the centre traded as normal during the construction.Stage 1 involved construction of the retail centre, whereas Stage 2 was a combination of demolition and construction. The old Total garage was flattened and replaced with the company’s ‘new-look’ garage, which includes a Mugg and Bean and a Thrupps express store.

During Stage 3, an attenuation reservoir was incorporated into a new ramp. To ensure future proofing, this involved controlled cutting of the existing centre concrete slab. From there, Stage 4 involved the extension of the Super Spar and the construction of bar-cum-restaurant, Rocket/ Lolita. Good planning and foresight allowed the Spar to remain open and operational during its 4-month renovation and extension, which meant minimal to no inconvenience to customers. The demolition of a previous multi-storey space in Hobart made room for an impressive total floor space of 2 200m2 for multi-story Rocket/ Lolita. This construction – which used Architectural off shutter in combination with off shutter concrete – was all done in house, by the team at Abbeydale.

SEABORNE

SEABORNE

Constructed in 2013 with a completion date in December of that year, Sasfin Premier Logistics was constructed for Griffin Holdings (Pty) Ltd. Abbeydale’s relationship with Griffin Holdings dates back over a decade with many successful developments having been completed. However, Sasfin Premier Logistics stands out from the other developments due to its architectural off-shutter concrete façade and double volume glazed curtain wall, which is visible from the main access road in Kempton Park. The facility which incorporates over three thousand square meters of offices and seven thousand square meters of warehousing fronts both the R21 highway as well as Pomona road in Kempton Park. The facility was constructed in just under six months with site handover taking place on the fifteenth of April 2013, including the bulk earthworks scope and sits as a true example of fast track construction undertaken to the benefit of the client.

GRW

GRW

The Abbeydale team both constructed and project managed this turnkey development for GRW. The building – that features a workshop, paint shop, wash bay, showroom, offices and an impressive 22 000m2 yard – encompassed the complete range of tanker and trailer requirements for this transport equipment designer and manufacturer.

World-class hydraulic lifts were installed in the lift pit bases to the workshop bays – a standout feature in this building.

More than 8 000m3 of concrete was used during construction. The majority of this had an off-shutter finish to compliment the glass façade, which showcases a modern showroom as the ‘face’ of GRW to the N12 highway.

BMW MIDRAND

BMW MIDRAND

Located in Midrand, Johannesburg, South Africa, the new BMW spare parts distribution facility, constructed for ATTACQ, was completed in nine and a half months from March 2017 until mid-December 2017. The new facility, including a warehouse of approximately thirty two thousand square meters and an additional five hundred square meters of office space was completed on schedule. However, BMW required an exceptionally early beneficial access date at the end of August 2017, just six months after the site was handed over. In order for beneficial access to be provided in such a short period, certain principles of Lean Construction were introduced in conjunction with BMW’s expertise. By working hand in hand with the professional team and BMW’s representatives the beneficial occupation date was also achieved on schedule and included the completion of the principle warehouse structure, roof covering, specialist concrete surface beds, flammable store, external hardstands, electric lighting and power. Our team at Abbeydale Building and Civils (Pty) Ltd are exceptionally grateful to have been given the opportunity to construct this facility and proud of the product that has been delivered to both the employer and BMW.
